Gary channels his bursting energy through his work using a series of techniques, namely crayons. This choice of the working tool, which produces a permanent trace, gives his work a rough and decided character. Brewer creates round figures in cold and strong colors that stand out of the downpour of lines in the background. His faceless characters are disturbing and help to build a personal world that somehow reminds us of the dreamlike environment contained in the work of the Italian painter Giorgio de Chirico - except for the geometric features which are not present in Brewer’s work. Aside from a period spent studying in Arkansas, Gary has lived all his life in Alabama, where he dreams of having his own studio.
